Here is another recycled canvas that I am finally happy with aptly named, “Sometimes she doesn’t see the forest for the trees”.
On this I did the gesso plastic bag technique first, see previous posts about this so I don’t bore you all here. Next I painted in some blocks of color using Generation Green acrylic.
I then took some of my photos from camping trips and played a tiny bit with them digitally. Printed out in grayscale then collaged onto the canvas using ESF varnish; worked perfectly, no bleeding or smell. (Just make sure the ink is dry first.)

I also drew on a leaf cluster and extended or highlight the collaged photos using a black oil pastel.

Next I applied No VOC wax using a palette knife. I used the side of the knife to create one texture and the edges to draw tree shapes and grass.

After the wax dried I dipped my finger in a bit of gesso and light rubbed it across some of the textured areas.

This was a new combination of products and techniques for me, fun and I am delighted with the results. Gotta go frame this one.

This post has nothing to do about art and is all about caring for dogs.

Yesterday I posted on Twitter that we had found an abandoned dog at the dog park. She was a sweet young mixed breed that had spent the night alone in the cold and dark. Happy to see us she was wiggling and jumping with joy until another person pulled up and she ran to the gate expectant to see her owner, sad. Got some treats out of my car which she refused so she was not starving and had had a recent bath, someone did care for her. The regulars at the park debated about what to do or who should take her. Finally it was decided that a rescue group would be the best option since if the owners wanted they would be able to find her. Frankly we all fell in love with Mystery dog but were also happy to see the rescue women come with a young girl who obviously adored Mystery dog. I will be keeping tabs on how this turns out but am guessing Mystery will stay with the girl unless the owners come up with a really good story.

Why am I posting this?

In our area there are no “No kill” shelters and the shelters are jammed full. If she had been dumped anywhere else there is a chance animal control would have picked her up and some dog would have been put down to make room for her in the shelter. She was not a puppy so adoption chances would have been very low.

By leaving her at the park, it is totally fenced, the owners probably were counting on those of us who go there to help her and they were right. We now have a number of people from boarders and breeders to groomers and just those who care about dogs who have agreed to foster or adopt any abandoned dogs from this park. Mystery brought us all together on this and while we hope no more animals lose their homes we know we will work together to make sure they find new ones.

Please consider networking in your locale to provide emergency shelter for animals, you’ll be glad you did.
